ttsmallCarnival has come and gone and we have had as good a time as we had last year. We attended a few events with Graham and Joanie from Karma. It was their first Carnival and they enjoyed it as much as we did. They seemed to anyway, even during the gruelling J’Ouvert in the early hours of the morning!

We are almost ready to leave for Venezuela at the end of February. The boat is provisioned in preparation for a few weeks away from civilisation and we are carrying goods to trade with the local Indian people in the river settlements. The last time we went to Venezuela, we took US dollars to exchange for Bolivars as we got a better exchange rate that way. This year we have managed to obtain some Bolivars from a fellow cruiser. The only thing bugging Pat is that we will be out of internet range and there are two very import games of football coming up in March. Hopefully Sheila can text her the results if the cell phone works!

Apart from Carnival and work there hasn’t been much news. Pat went to her first hash since she’s been back, a very benign stroll around the Tucker Valley, and Mike finally took possession of his new bow after umpteen visits to Police and Custom HQ’s. He has been like a little kid ever since!

There are some photos and movies from Carnival below. You are supposed to pay for accreditation to take photos at the Kings and Queens competition but we managed to sneak a few!

See you after the Monamo.

Cheers.

Three of the amazing costumes on stage at the preliminary Kings/Queens competition. A lot of these are too big to be paraded through the streets on Carnival Monday and Tuesday.

A medley of some of the Old Yard characters at the Viey de Cou.

J’Ouvert was just as much fun as last year. You can see that the masqueraders just kept on ‘chipping’ as the new day dawned.

The great parade on Carnival Tuesday is always a colourful spectacle. Here is just a taste.
