John & Mo

John built El Lobo in 1971 on the Manchester Ship canal. It was the  second boat he had built. He was a pilot on the canal and had previously sailed all over the world in the merchant navy. His very first passage was made on a tanker called El Lobo and he decided that when he built his own boat that would be her name. When we bought the boat from him in May of 2002 we liked the name and decided to keep it - The Wolf!!

John has led an interesting life, including being torpedoed by a Japanese ship during the 2nd World War.

If you would like to learn more about John and the building of El Lobo, go to his son Mitch’s web page here

Ferro-cement boats are built using steel ‘re-bar’ to form the frame of the hull.
